COMPONENTS OF AN EVALUATION(continued)

Observation Rating Scale is to identify situations where the client may have reduced language related performance at his work related site. Difficulties in communication and language can directly affect his ability to function with others. The 4 areas include listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

Job Related Skills As part of the social skills curriculum, the Work Effectiveness Evaluation was administered. This testing was based on the Bureau of Rehabilitation Services materials to determine areas where intervention would be necessary to improve the client’s skills in 5 functional areas of mobility, communication, self-care, self-direction, and work tolerance.

Sensory Screening is to evaluate six sensory areas: tactile, vestibular, proprioception, auditory, olfactory, and visual. The parent completes an evaluation checklist answering each item with a yes/no, no response, or not applicable. The information is analyzed to create a Sensory Response Summary to be used in the sensory integration rooms at the Montano Assistive Technology Center.

SPELL or Spelling Performance Evaluation for Language and Literacy is an assessment that determines which of the critical "knowledge language" domains the individual is or is not using when spelling. Spelling is a complex skill that draws upon several "knowledge language" areas, which contribute to spelling development.

Trial of Equipment is critical in the appropriate selection of computers, software, and dedicated devices. The technology specialist has an extensive library of hardware and software that is in the Montano Assistive Technology Center, so individuals can have the opportunity to compare and contrast comparable equipment/software. She continually attends conferences and has input with developers on how to develop more cost effective systems and software.
